u can use both
so don't worry. It may get time to get used to. There are really really slight differences in some ways, but other than that, it still is a browser.

Middle mouse button is hardware mate :)

IE has support for active x and ASP as well as microsoft specific stuff.

Firefox is better for those who enjoy tabbed browsing but also for those who aren't exactly computer savvy because it is more secure.

I still use IE due to different pages not being available through firefox, and for those that know a bit of know-how it shouldn't pose too big of a threat.

Firefox's basic advantages are a different, most say sleeker interface, a greater resistance (it's not totally infallible though) to spyware and web nasties (IE makes one HUGE target since many hackers hate Microsoft and know everyone's using it), tabbed browsing (makes life tonnes easier for most), quicker updates for bugs and holes (last few reported holes have been fixed in a matter of weeks, rather than Microsoft's months) and extensions that extend its functionality (e.g. an ad-blocker). You can use IE and Firefox concurrently and Firefox has an Import Wizard that will import all your bookmarks, settings, etc. from IE when you first install it (so you don't really lose much and get a fresh new look). I find it very customisable and easy to use. All of IE's basic functionality is duplicated in Firefox - it works in mostly the same way, so it's easy to learn. Apart from some websites that require IE to work (e.g. Windows Update), Firefox works across the web, and if it doesn't it's easy to fire up IE to take over. I highly recommend you switch. :)

I simply use Firefox for the tabbed browsing and the minimise to taskbar plugins.
A handy side effect is that Firefox won't let malicious websites install shitty toolbars onto your browser whereas IE generally lets them get through.

Again, thats a pretty big misconception.

IE, doesnt 'let them through' its the user who allows it with their settings.

firefox is ergonomically superior, tabbed browsing is something i could never live without. its also good in a house like mine with mum using the computer and she isnt an expert so its easier for her to use with the plugins making our browsing experience hassle free.

Misconception, yes, but that's what I 'believe' and to a person who doesn't get so involved with the intricacies (such as how secure IE is anyway), it's what we see in front of us that influences us.

IE now has tabbed browsing, but only if you install the MSN toolbar (which i wouldn't let on my computer. ever)

Firefox also just a few days ago had a beta version of the google toolbar released for it.

Firefox's main bonus over IE, apart from the tabbed browsing, is the plugins you can get for it, to completely modify your web browsing experience. You can do shitloads extra if you find a plugin that does what you want to do, or are skilled enough to program your own plugin. They're awesome.

Having said that, I still use IE mainly (I have both IE and firefox on my comp). I'm too lazy to swap over, and find no problems with IE.

honestly is there any point having two browsers, if u could get rid of ie then i would get firefox, but thats not possible apparently,

IE does its job and there is very little point in having two browers!

Windows Updates

Thank you for your interest in Windows Update

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows that helps you get the most out of your computer.

You need to be running a version of Internet Explorer 5 or higher in order to use Windows Update.

Download the latest version of Internet Explorer

Once Internet Explorer is installed, you can go to the Windows Update site by typing http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com into the address bar of Internet Explorer.

If you prefer to use a different Web browser, updates to Windows may be downloaded from the Microsoft Download Center.

That's basically the only time i use IE.

msn messenger has a memory leak for me, or it might be one of the plug-ins.

it goes to about 50megs if I leave it open for a few hours.

damn memory leaks, there needs to be a 'bcheck' for windows.
