Assuming you don't get a graduate position at a top tier law firm, how should you go about finding a job as a Solicitor? I have noticed that many of the jobs on Seek, CareerOne and MyCareer etc have jobs for at least 2 years + PAE. So where would a law graduate (assuming you have done the PLT) find a job as a Solicitor, not paralegal. Or do most graduates start off in a paralegal type role? There is virtually no job ads for 0 years experience.

i'm not thinking of alternate scenarios. it's a matter of do or die.

[actually, if i don't get in, i might do LLM and go into academia...]

After talking to a few soicitors at work, they basically all hold the same perspective.

If you aren't offered a clerkship, either;

1. Work part-time during uni and hang in there until you graduate and push them for a graduate position...

2. Work part-time during uni and use this as a stepping stone into other (mid-tier) firms, because you can say "I've done Statements of Claims, debt recovery [insert other bs, dog body jobs], so give me a decent position above a paralegal".

/end of story.

More study=more prestige to law firms maybe?
More study=very annoying
more study = less pay

I'm not joking. PhD will get you a 90% pay cut.
