Hey, My half yearlies are next week, i'm doing
-Std. Eng
-General maths
-chem
-Bio
-Vis. Arts

I'm doing alright in english and biology, just passing chem and art and am failing maths. I've only just decided what i want to do next year and it requires a UAI of 84. I know i'm not going to do really well in the half yearlies, but if i work my ass off and do well in the trials and HSC do you think i have a chance at redeeming myself and achieving a UAI of 84?
I'm just sort of panicy at the moment.
yeah... umm okay

well for one stop stressing

- okay..i think we need a little more information like ranks and marks thus far

because maybe your failing but everyone else is and your like in the top three, which obviously means your school assessments are difficult and then if you achieve well in the hsc you assessment mark will be moderated accordingly

so i would suggest you've still got a bit of time until the half yearlies - either:
GET THE SYLLABUS ASAP! www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au

write some notes or
download some off here
get some study guides - Excel, Macquarie or some books called Dot Points they're good for science subjects i hear...ask vuongsterboi

hope that helped :):)

I would try and get into the top 10 for each subject, aim as high as can be.
Also the school you go to will have an impact.

You really need to be at least in the top 10 for stuff like bio, gen maths and art. Chem your rank is a bit too low as well. Keep practicing and learning from mistakes and your ranks should increase- how quickly is up to how hard you try :)

Any idea, then? You reckon being top 10 is a better indicator in comparison to top 10%?

What if you have 10 people in your class? That means you are top 10 already!!! Yeah!!!
No, the person you were responding to suggested a scenario where the class had less than 10 people, in which case being in the top 10% won't really mean anything. Do you think comming first out of 3 people is better than comming first out of 300 people?

Thinking=key

Except, in selective schools, theres always a set of rankings that are untouchable (say, top 10 if your grade has 50+ stduents doing the subject).
