The thing is i didn't adjust, i never experienced year 11 i skipped it, because i was in Queensland for personal reasons, i regret i should of done year 11 in Sydney but i considered it waste of time, and damnit i hate writing essay's why can't they give you 100 multiple choices instead or at least just short answers... and it was DAMN difficult adjusting to Sydney's bloody guidelines

Practice cramming a shitload of info into an unrealistically small word count.
I think the big difference is that at high school, you automatically get good marks if you answer the question, and your essay is well written, and correct. At UNI, it has to be well written, correct, but answering the question on the assessment guidelines is not enough... markers seem to have some secret formula in their head that has to be followed to get over a credit, but you're not told what it is til after they've been marked. Like they'll say that the only way to get a high mark is to refer to some random journal article they alluded to 2 months ago and never spoke of again, which had nothing to do with anything. Boo!

the work load is alot more, but you get use to it. In high school on average you have 6 subjects and it would take you the entire year to learn out of the 6 text books. At uni you have 4 subjects per semester and most of the time you have to learn 4 textbooks worth of information in 10 weeks. thats just a rough guide at looking at it though, it varies depending on the degree.

Just to provide some contrast to the first few replies I bothered reading...

I do nothing at uni, besides lounge around. Been to 4 lectures this semester, (the first lecture of each subject), about 6 last semester, about 5 the one before and so on...

Much the same as HSC, in that I do nothing. No workload. 1-3 hour crammming. Skip classes to play some pool. Maybe some cs. Watch a movie. Same old shit.

But ye, it all depends on the person you are, your course/uni.

Only real differences are that you don't have lil kids running around. You don't have Lunch and recess (unless you're at usyd lidcombe campus LOL), everyone is given respect, rather than a teacher/student environment, and its much bigger. More people. In highschool you'll know everyone. You'll probably know just as many ppl at uni, but there'll be 20-50 times more ppl there.

Excuse me? i really think that depends on the single degree. i'm doing a single degree (agriculture) and last semester we had 28 hour weeks. if u r stupid enough to go into credit overload, especilly in first year, then u would be doing like 40 hours a week. i know that doesnt sound like much, but whe u factor in travel time, etc, you're talking 60 hour weeks - and that doesnt even include study time, or part time work to pay the bills - its not possible.

i agree! i almost cried when i got my first assignment back and i got like 14/20 (which is a credit by the way) it hard to be happy with a 16/20 (distinction) when u are used to 18's and 19's

yeah, but u have to remember that u are competing against the cream of the crop, everybody in there has already reached a certain level, and to get D's u have to go above and beyond that level, which is just impossible.

I have 3 to 4 hours of travel a day and I work 12 hours a week (which isn't a great amount of time, but eh) yet I can still find time for my double degree. You don't take any extra credit points per year over the other students (unless you overload), so I fail to see how it involves more work than that of a single degree, especially when you consider the fact that at any one time you could be doing second/third and first year units, which arguably involves less work than that of a straight second or third year degree.

ok, im doing B Science (req. UAI 73.65) and I want to transfer into B Occupational Therapy (req UAI 90.xx or 91.xx) at the same uni (newcastle)
what sort of average would i need to do this? and how much work do you reckon im gunna need to put in to get it?

thank god!!atleast there's no bitchiness..... . In yr 12 , i had these peers who cudn't accept me getting more marks than them n thus started bitching.....abt me to all their other friends ...yeah but i didn't care n i didn't give them a bloody shit......finally i beat them all n ended up being the dux , n HSC too i got higher uai than them!!!
