Hey, I am studying front line at school and we have been asked to find 3 additional pieces related to front line, such as newspaper articles, current affairs stories, or movies. Has anyone got any ideas on a movie I could use?

also things like child over-board scandal etc... although that one is kinda over-used

Simpsons.. Jebediah Springfield, theres some good movies like All the Presidents Men" and Wag is good as well.

Movies to do with politics almost always have a good telling the truth angle.

how about "Big Fish" either the film or the novel...to kill a mockingbird that ruth wajnrib's column in the satruday spectrum in the SMH is usually good

wag the dog is also overused, as well as the michael moore documentary, i can't remember the name but obviously they're good to use

Yeah our class got told that we aren't allowed to use Wag the Dog (well our class isn't anyway) because it is overused so our teacher has placed a ban on it.

i have trouble with finding a written ORT for Frontline...any help??? Oh, it doesn't matter whether you use wag the dog or not....if it's overused that's because it's good....and easy...but good still....BTW big fish the novel, kinda sucks and is hard to get techniques for...

just one question, do our related texts have to specifically satirise/criticise how the truth has been told by others, like Frontline (and programs like mediawatch) do?

Or can it be like any newspaper article or Current affairs episode that we ourselves can analyse/criticise for how they have chosen to tell the 'truth'?

This is not an idea for a related text, more of a question so Ill post it here.

Is it better to use texts that form a part of contemporary media ?(be it a feature article, book or doco etc etc)

This is what the syllabus says:

"Each elective in this module requires the study of one prescribed text offering a
representation of an event, personality or situation. Students are also required to
supplement this study with texts of their own choosing which provide a variety of
representations of that event, personality or situation. These texts are to be drawn
from a variety of sources, in a range of genres and media."

So, for Frontline, the personality or event is? Im sure this is obvious but I don't get it...misrepresentation of what in the media?

I don't really know about the "event, personality or situation"-- I think that's horribly worded. I assume that yes, it is Frontline's representation of the media, but I wouldn't call the media an 'event, personality or situation'...

yeah i don't like that wording either. i took it to mean that, for e.g., frontline add sex and stir was about a particular situation

is it better to use contemp media? not necessarily, use whatever you want, as long as it ties to the question

Don't use wag the dog! It's incredible overdone. Markers will get the poops if they see it pop up. Its considered a text that average students would use because they can't be bothered to search for anything else.

There's a movie with Robert Redford in it... what's it called? It's directly related. Damn, I think it might be all the presidents men, have no idea.
