why is it that James Ruse can get 55%+ subjects into band 6
when many regional schools get (0-1) subject into band 6???

It seems that all city schools do really good while regional schools
do bad....

I go to smith's hill and it is a selective school and top school in the
region but compared to the sydney selective schools it way behind...

Well, as a whole, they are the cream of the crop in terms of academic performance, hence the excellent results attributed to that school.

Not the quality of teaching. How is that to be adequately measured between schools when the academic ability of the student bodies varies dramatically?

The top city schools have the pick of the litter, in a way, so it is no suprise that they generally out-perform the regional selective schools.

when u put a bunch of smart kids in one area, the competitive environment they create for themselves becomes self-propagating and their ability grows exponentially, whereas im sure they wont do as good if u isolate each and every one of them.

why would city school have better canditure??
its not like people who live there automatically become smart
demographically, the city has more ppl right? suppose the number of intelligent kids per 100 is a constant k for both the country and the city (which is not true, but anyway, let us suppose). now since the city has more people k in city is greater than k in country.

now as you said, your school is the best in the region. to be honest, my school (Syd Boys') isn't, because we've got JR, NSGHS, SGHS, Grammar etc. whooping our ass. but because the competition between the city schools is so great, and the people so many, the quality will be raised to a greater extent. to put that into perspective, your school whoops the local schools, but who else? you haven't got anyone else to compete with, and without competition you cannot expect to better someone else.

anyway, this is, as Year12 has said, a "der" question, so I don't think i need to go on explaining.

edit: btw, JR are good, really good, so no point competing with them.

you wouldn't compare james ruse with any other regional or any other selective school for that matter. ruse has the best of the best in the state, in a way i'm surprised they don't get even more than 55% band 6s

fuck that. stop looking at how ruse does. heads down, thumbs up, study ass off.

i'm aiming to beat ruse's median estimate (UAI 99.3) and they can't do shit to stop me. it's all about yourself people. forget the others. there's only: you => effort required => UAI 99+
