haha dont mock me but im unsure about this question:

(2010 General Math HSC Exam Q 28 b) http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.a...pdf_doc/2010-hsc-exam-general-mathematics.pdf)

I just dont get the following questions:

(i) Cans are packed in boxes that are rectangular prisms with dimensions 1 30 cm × 40 cm × 60 cm. What is the maximum number of cans that can be packed into one of these boxes?
(Why is it 3 x 4 x 6?? - thats what it is in the sample answers)

i also dont get iv)

thanks guys!

for part i)
It would be because the cans are 10cm high with a 10cm diameter (meaning 10 cm back). So that means you can just divide the dimensions of the box by 10 (seeing as its common for all the cans). Then just times it by the new dimensions (ie, 3 cans high, 4 cans across, and 6 cans back)

As for part iv)
although it doesnt make that much sense the best way to do these questions is always to find the lowest point on the first graph (ie, around 6.2cm radius), and then transfer that number to the second graph to find the second variable (ie, height, which makes about 12.8cm)

Hope that helps..
