Genre Theory? (1 Viewer)

Does anyone know where I would be able to find reliable and useful genre theory quotes? (either internet or books)
I have a few, but my teacher suggests I need to make my essay more theoretical to improve it. I've included about 2 in my past assessment (10 minute speech) but due to time constraints I decided not to explain it fully and go straight into the exploration of conventions and techniques.
I'm doing Crime Fiction if that helps anyone.

My teacher gave me a book on Crime genre theory: "Private Dicks and Feisty Chicks" by Cathy Cole - she's a crime writer. I also bought an eBook called "Genre" by John Frow. I've only skimmed both books but they look good and very quotable. Hope this helps!
