Why? <> is the same length, and it actually defines it mathematically.

so thats why != is used in programming, hence perhaps less ambigious.

<> would mathematically be greater than or less than - therefore, not equal to.

It's all arbitrary. But "!=" can be misinterpreted

If you say 5 != 4 It could be mistaken for 5! = 4

<> Can only mean one thing, greater than or less than.
