what does getting a certain band give you?
for example if I am in the very-very-bottom of band 6, will my mark scales much better than if I was in the very-very-top of band 5?
or for extension courses, band E4 and E3.

sorry if this is already discussed somewhere...

Ok you're confusing scaling with aligning here;

When you do your exams; the BOS takes your raw marks and 'aligns' them into bands.

The UAC then takes your raw marks, and scales them to work out your UAI.

So the BOS's Bands have nothing to do with your UAI

Oh. I forgot that.

But do you know why people say.. "its safe if u got a band 6" or .. "dont worry u r in band 6 or 5"?
when band means nothing....

cos most people dont realise that bands have nothing to do with UAI. lol No, while the aligning and scaling processes are seperate, looking at aligned marks (the bands) can give an indication to your performance. If you are in band 6 then it's generally safe to say that you performed better than most people who sat the exam, and therefore your UAI will be decent

But you should keep in mind that there often isn't any real distinction between the bands.

e.g. A student who scores 90 is really only slightly better than one who scores 89, even though the former was in band 6 and the latter was in band 5.

They're better thought of as HSC mark ranges. :)
