Hey, you know that Globalisation question they ask every year about impact of globalisation on an economy blah blah blah..

Can they get you to do that qusetion on a country other than Australia? or they must always say on Australia or another country.

Yes they can ask about another country.

In fact the syllabus says:

Case study
A case study on the impact of globalisation on an economy other than Australia
should be undertaken, along with the strategies that this economy is using to
promote economic growth and development.

So they could ask you specifically about another country.

They changed the syllabus to must instead of should about a month ago.
I've learnt impact of globalisation on Ireland and policies and consequences etc.
Not much on Australia however.

They can change the syllabus midway through a year? Thought that changes only take effect at the start of the next year, but yeah should and must basically mean the same thing....

Anyway, they usually do phrase the questions so that the answer could be on Austrlia or another country. They dont usually restrict both options to one or the other.

but markers' notes in the past have stated that students who choose to write about australia (when the question says australia OR another country) usually don't do as well, simply because australia's performance is boring in comparison to a lot of other countries that other people do, and there isn't as much to talk about.

i guess it just depends on what the other country is. i think markers like transition economies or newly emerging economies rather than developed superpowers that just keep growing and don't really change THAT much as a result of globalisation (eg USA).

True, but i would say that China is one of the best countries to do. It is expereincing massive growth, and there is alot to talk about in regards to development and living standards/equality etc etc.

globalisation is a very open ended area of discussion due to its implications on the entire HSC economics study. I'd be more concerned with pedantic areas of the syllabus and knowing all your economic formulas, rather than concerning myself with an entire chapter of study. If you still feel unconfident, do a small study into a global economy (I do agree with a study of the emerging tiger economy; China!) However I doubt HSC markers will look at the Australian economy as "boring" please remember this is outcome based and not a subjective analysis of your economic aptitude. I hope that helps.
