what % is HD'S, D'S, and whats CP AND F ??

i know c's mean = 65%+
P's = 50%+

and i also know 3c's and 1a's is 2.5 GPA
or 2b's and 2c's=2.5GPA this is realistic

high distinctions and distinctions are 'up there'
probably for HD you'll be top 2%
D would be top 10%?

maybe less.

F is a fail.

yea i know that

but i looked at my brothers university "degree" year 4 honours and it had 64% for a few things and it only stated "pass"next to it... which i see as unfair, though he managed to get d's

so i was wondering, what d and hd means.. they dont necessarily mean top 10% or 2.. its a certain mark am i wrong

High Distinction = 85 - 100 %
Distinction = 75 - 84 %
Credit = 65 - 74 %
Pass = 50 - 64%
Fail = 0 - 49 %
Pass Conceded = just less than 50%, & you'll only get this if you're lucky (or have done well in other subjects).

is there any way of calculating your gpa? i know you can calculate your wam (weighted average mark) pretty easily but is gpa something you can calculate yourself if you're just left with raw marks from each of your subs?

You people at least don't have to put up with the Macq. GPA system.

HD,D --- 4
Cr --- 3
P --- 2
CP --- 1
F --- 0

There is absolutely no incentive to do well. :D

flyin': however, if u did wanna transfer out of macquarie, u'd need to follow UAC's GPA system!

anyway I read the ACER thing and thats confusing,
the simple way is this
as Cyph mentioned
HD = 7
D = 6
C = 5
P = 4

At most uni's, the unit value for each full subject is 6 credit points
so say u got 3 HD's and 1 pass in one semester
u multiply the Grade value of your subject by the credit point value and sum these
ie. 7x6 + 7x6 + 7x6 + 4x6 for the example above
then u divide this result by the total credit point value (24 in one semester)

so 3HD's and 1 pass give u a GPA of 6.25
obviously a distinction average is 6.0 and an HD average is 7.0

...as an interesting sidenote, the only way to get an HD average is to get all HDs. :)

This is why I like WAM better. In theory the system above forces you to get an average non-HD even if you were to get 84 in one subject and 100 in every other one. The WAM system lets you get a WAM of 100 - 16/n (n = total credit points you've done divided by 6), which definitely falls into HD territory.
