are these similar to actuarial studies? and how what course do you need to do to get into these jobs?
No. Are you just going into the job that pays the most? You get into these jobs by being the best of the best, and then a little better.

Actuarial Studies is Actuarial Studies.

For those jobs, I'd assume a Commerce degree with a relevant major would get you in.
Any degree that isn't arts will get you there, they employee engineers etc

Graduate salaries will never be that high. They will only apply to people who have been in the industries for a good length of time.
Graduate salaries are high for IB related stuff because its the worst job in the world. 100 hour working weeks aren't uncommon. You don't have a life. All that money, but no time to spend it.

Can someone briefly explain what a "Financial Markets" Job is like, as in what it involves etc please?
trading, analyst, risk assessment, anything?

We may follow the path of the US and our concern will not be so much salary as being able to land a job

According to an article in the WSJ - "the nvestment-banking industry, notoriously prone to cyclical hiring and firing during booms and busts, is in the midst of a retrenchment that may be more far-reaching." so don't expect the big salary packages of the past

Also you guys are really retarded...

The top of the top of mining grads make 80k out of uni...yeah ok, but have you considered how fucking expensive living near mines is, or how shitty it is moving between mines/city every week.

Not even close to being worth 80k

Plus, there are too many eng grads. People keep telling me about some engineering shortage in aus. Yes dumb shits, there is, but only for experienced engineers. They don't give a shit about the 5000 engineers from all unis coming out. They'll pick up the best and chuck the rest into 45k salaries.
