soap has polar head / non polar tail
hydrophobic tail dissolves in non polar grease
friction from rubbing action lifts up grease molecule from surface and allows for more tails to dissolve
once tails have fully surrounded --> micelle
emulsion of soap water and grease micelles is rinsed away with water

bam clean

I can't really post all the spectra here but basically how do we determine if something is ethyl ethanoate vs methyl methanoate based on H NMR and mass spec - the answers say that I was meant to justify based on that, but their HNMR and mass spec are (in my theory) identical???
