Im not doing too bad, but the difference in my school between 1st in chem and 30th in chem is 1.6 marks

I wish that were true. My schools comprehensive... so with the exception of the top 5-10 students in the subject, the rest arent that good. I dont need the top rank in chem but itd be nice considering I came so close last year
