Hey bro's,

As the title says, I've finished the 2013 HSC with 94.85 and didn't even attempt UMAT. But now I'm quite adamant about getting into Med.

I've visited this thread:
http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=37582

and this one:
http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=316743

and the general consensus is that the UMAT is quite necessary.

Are there any non-UMAT options available, considering moving interstate is not really an issue ?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks peeps.

this thread has your answers http://community.boredofstudies.org/showthread.php?t=302160

this is a good post:

NSW:

USYD: 99.95 + Interview (no UMAT)

UNSW: High Atar & UMAT (atleast 98+ and >90%)

UWS: >93.55 if GWS, >95.55 is non-GWS plus high UMAT (90%) and MMI (Interview)

UNCLE: >96/97 ATAR, UMAT of 85%+ and MMI (Interview)

VIC:

Monash: 97/98+ ATAR, high UMAT (93%+) and Interview (UMAT cut off varies from year to year)

QLD:

UQ: 99+ ATAR and UMAT getting 50+ in all three sections (which means a UMAT of say 53% would get you in) & no interview.

Griffith: 99.70, no UMAT

JCU (my personal favourite): 95+ ATAR, no umat, written application and Interview.

I researched the shit out of this last year. Don't know much about the other states though. - louielouiee

also UWS is 95 atar cut off for med, give them a call and maybe arrange them? otherwise bribe the uni? $10,000 should be enough imo

I was actually in a very similar situation to you this time last year.

I ended up taking a gap year to do the UMAT and it ended up being OK, but I wouldn't rush out to recommend it to anyone and if I had my time again I certainly wouldn't make the same decision.
You have heaps of other options in terms of ways to get in. There is always the pathway of transferring after a year (or two or three), or finishing an undergraduate degree then applying to one of the graduate schools like USYD, UMELB, Deakin, ANU (I can't think of the others).

To me transfer means you start at the point where you left off as opposed to starting over again. You reapply and get accepted into medicine.
