Find roots of the equation: 4x^3-8x^2-3x+9=0 given two of the roots are equal. Let the roots be alpha, alpha and beta.

It comes out as another cubic though ..

if this was 4U maths i would use the multiplicity theorem

otherwise i would probably do a guess and check to find out one of the factor and do long division

It does come out as a cubic if you use the sum and the product.

BUT it turns out as a quadratic if you use the sum and the sum in pairs.

It is rather annoying that you never acknowledge people's help.
