Hey i'm not sure, i was just bored and looked at this and I can't shake this from my head.

ab = rt2
a = b/rt2

On these 2 lines, i don't see how a =b/rt2 if ab = rt2 ... wouldn't it equate to a = rt2/b?? please shove it down my throat if i'm wrong lol I just wanna know before the hsc arrives :) thanks in advance

lol yea i just came back on to pt it out..

neyways it gets the same answer

a = rt2/b
b^4-3b^2+2 =0

b= +/-rt2 a=+/-a

since a+b > 0

a+b = rt2+1

thanks

Here's an alternative solution:

rt[3 + rt(8)]
= rt [1 + 2rt(2) + 2]
= rt[(1 + rt(2))^2] <--- by completing the square
= 1 + rt(2)
