Question is to determine size and direction of the force acting on the following charges, however I'm not sure what the charge is. They give the the charge and mass of electrons and protons but what are the symbols on the two questions below?

Thank you :)

do you know what an alpha particle is?
Do you know what an ion is?

Do you have access to a periodic table and a data sheet?

This is all standard information that you have to manipulate.

I'm still confused, what am I looking for on my periodic table/data sheet?

Alpha particles are the same as a helium nuclei (2 protons, 2 neutrons).
--> Charge of an alpha particle is 2x1.602x10^-19 C (use this value in calculations).

A lead(II) ion has a charge of +2 (hence, "II").
--> Charge of a lead(II) ion is 2x1.602x10^-19 C (use this value in calculations).

This will never pop-up in HSC Physics as not all students do Chemistry. But in uni, it will definitely pop-up.
