identify the ways by which physicists continue to develop their understanding of matter using accelerators as a probe to investigate the structure of matter

Thanks in advance guys, I've only read stuff about how they are given kinetic energy and fired at target, is this meant to simulate certain chemical reactions like nucleus bombarding. Anything would be great, thanks

its not really a chemical reaction at this point
here the chemists give up and make the physicists
do the hard work...

The only point you havent covered might be the fact
that when you collide high energy particles you can
probe 'deeper' into matter by observing the more and
more fundamental particles react with one another

this info becomes the link to the cosmologist dotpoint
that asks about how and why high-energy particle physics
is related to cosmology...

do we need to list the types of particle accelerators and the ways they accelerate particles to hit the target? also in nuclear fission it was mentioned that slow neutrons have better chances of getting absorbed by the nucleus, thereby starting a chain reaction. this is different from what happens in particles accelerators, where particles are given large kinetic energy, right?

Its not its OWN dotpoint but it could be of some general help

it is different, you're right, because they're trying to achieve different goals
in a particle accelerator I dont think you want particles being absorbed,
personally ive been taught accelerators are all about mapping collisions
and using higher and higher energies you can look at smaller and smaller
particles / forces

that was our hsc question last year so they won't ask it again
I hadn't really learned much about that dot point so i started talking about CERN from dan brown's Angels and Demons and the collision of high speed particles
