This is from the 2004 HSC exam paper, apparently the answer is "B", but I cant work out how. I think its "A". The board of studies answer doesnt seem to take into account momentum! I would have though, relative to the movement of the person, that it would just drop straight down (assuming no air resistance) and obviously accelerate downwards due to gravity. Heres the question attached.

Note the person is accelerating uniformly, so the ball will be left behind because when it is dropped it will continue at a constant velocity.

As he is accelerating, the horizontal spacing has to increase proportional to t2

Ohh! I am such an idiot. I just assumed uniform velocity, always helps to read the question. I completely understand now :D Thanks helper.
