variables...dependant....independant...controlled.....what does it all mean again?
controlled variables in an experiment is when u have everything right so it wont affect the results in anyway.

variables are the things in the experiment
dependent are the variables that change
independent is the variable that doesnt

ie.
and experiment to check the solibity of a diff drugs in acid
dept variable=drug
independent=acid
controlling the experiment would mean that u time both of them at the same time, temp of acid, size of container etc etc

hope i helped and didnt get nething wrong :D

Not quite Snow:
Independent Variable: The thing you change. In your case the drug
Dependent Variable: The thing you are looking for the change in
Controlled Variables: The things you keep the same. Eg Acid, Volume etc.

You'll go alright. You had variables right, controlled variables right.
Just remember you always have two variables that are going to change in an experiment.

One you are changing (the independent) and one you are going to look at the effect on (dependent), it depends on what you have done.

Or in most graphs, the dependent is on the vertical axis and the independent is on the horizontal.

Or the even spaced one is the independent variable, the one that doesn't change evenly is the dependent.

hmm helper said; "Controlled Variables: The things you keep the same. Eg Acid, Volume etc."

is that correct? so simply the variable that you keep the same? i always thought it was a variable that you compare with the others to see if the results would vary? lol ehh dont listen 2 me. im strugling =( and we just started HSC work .. ahhh!!

Hmm... lets try to clear this up a bit....

Variables are things in an experiment that could change

Independent variables are things in the experiment that YOU change

Dependent variables are things that change DEPENDING upon the independent variables (ie it is your results)

Controlled variables: are all the other conditions that you are trying to keep constant (in order to make the experiment valid)

For example. if you are testing the ph of soaps...

Independent variable: the brand of soap (YOU are changing the brand of soap, ie YOU in control of which soap you are testing)

Dependent variable: pH (because the pH DEPENDS upon which brand of soap you are testing)

Controlled variables: other environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, sunlight etc. (you are keeping these conditions the same for each brand of soap you test so that they don't affect your results)

hopefully that made sense and didn't confuse everyone further...GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!!
