Holden's are shit period.... =)

Get Prelude VTi-R or Integra VTi-R. If your looking at a bigger car, get the 94-97 Accord VTi-S, if not enough power, drop a H22A in it.
You obviously like honda yet your making fun out of them with that pic in your sig...

Ok well had a look at a few cars at a few dealers.

They mostly seemed to give Vectra's quite a bad wrap in terms of servicing and future costs...

I really liked an RX I saw, the absolute ONLY thing wrong with it was that it had perhaps too many kms (124,000 for a 2002 car)...What do you guys think about that?

I also liked the Focus and 323...but probably prefered the Subaru...I saw some Vectras as well, but RX seemed to outshine them all...

I was thinking of buying a Holden Vectra.

I'm looking at the 6 cyclinder (2.6 litre) CD JSII - About a 2001-2002 car, hopefully about 60k-100k kms.

Would this be a good car for a first car? I think it'll be about 16-17k. Any medium-sized cars better for that price-range? I don't really want a big car like a Falcon or a Commodore. I want something about this size.

My brother drives an Accord (99) but I can't afford a Euro and there's really not many 01-02 Accords.

Also considred a Liberty, but it would be a little bit older, say 1999, I'm leaning towards Vectra though.

Thoughts?
Ill warn you. They are shit cars. We had one and it was nothing but trouble, ended up selling it and replacing it for a corolla. It had so many mech/elec problems. Plus their resale is shit.

Well the subaru is a damn good car.

In terms of kays on the clock though in australia cars average about 25,000km per year so you're right the RX you looked at did have fairly high mileage - plenty others around though.

All I know bout those Vectras is hard seats :)- plus resale isnt the best.

The mileage isnt such an issue if its service history is good and its all in good mechanical order. Unless its going to affect performance (ie. its been flogged for those 125000km) it should be ok, coz it seems your not going to drive to melbourne every weekend.

pulsar/magna dont hold up? care to explain that? :/ i personally, would seriously think of the magna before a vectra

the vectra you buy might be an absolute gem, i just want to make sure you know that there have been reports of some dodgy ones. Ford Focus's are generally a good car i think.

i'm sorry though, as i dont read up on newer/used cars as much as old/modified cars

i'd suggest checking this thread once guys like slipstream and....loq(im not gonna even try and spell it) come and give their opinions, theirs are usually more factual and better written :)
finally! some one who knows cars and appreciates cars for what they are (the magna). i have a 98 magna and love it but i can tell you the bad points. the turning circle is very bad and it is a long car, so you will have to learn how to park a bit better. the depreciation is big, so if you don't plan on keeping the car for a long time then you could lose out a fair bit. if you can get the manual as it is much quicker due to it having a diff ratio advantage. i whole heartedly recommend it though.
