Hi Everyone,

I am currently in the 11th grade. I am hoping to achieve an ATAR of at least 95 in 2011, but i only recieved Band 5 for Maths, English and Science for my School Cert.

This is mainly due to my laziness and the fact i didn't do ANY studying at home for a LONG time, now that i know how important the HSC is to me, i will start changing.

Do i have hope for that 95+ ATAR?

Thank You.

The School Certificate is not an accurate indicator of a student's performance at all. You said it yourself, this was 'due to [your] laziness', which means that you have a lot more potential. If you received a Band 5 whilst not caring, imagine what can happen when you do care, and put in the effort.

Just to tell you, my friend got a 82 in SC English. In the HSC, he was first in the state for English Extension 1. He didn't care about his SC at all. He got 99.45.

So yes, you have every chance of getting 95+.

The school certificate tests different skills, and different knowledge. As Aerath said, you cannot reasonably expect to predict HSC results with it.

Agree with Aerath, SC is a very poor indicator of what you will get in the HSC. Like you, I only got band 5 for those 3 subjects (in fact, I got band 5 for every single subject in the SC), but I got a uai of 95+

As the others have said, the SC results =/= HSC results in any way at all.

In fact you'll find that most people believe that the SC is a waste of time.

Just study effectively and you'll be fine :)

Well it really was a waste of time :p

Also, it's nearly useless now that the leaving age is 17 as of the 1st of January.

Thanks everyone, But how much work do you think is "enough"? I know it's like asking "how long is a piece of string" but i'd like to know how many hours of study(inc. H/W) you did in year 11 and 12 to reach such high UAI/ATAR, just to get an idea/guideline.

Band fives are really good! Seriously! Especially good since you were lazy.

Don't be lazy in the HSC and you can achieve whatever you want!
