Well it says l'Hospital or l'Hôpital them being equivalent in French spelling.

yep, the circumflex on the vowel denotes an abbreviated(or whateva u call it) 's' in french

There are many English words like this. And when removing the circumflex you add an s. You don't just say "hey, I don't like the power sign being above my e, I'm removing it".
