So with the whole new hospitality marking criteria everything has changed and now my Half yearlies count 40% of my mark and my trials are 60%.
What im wondering is, under the new rules, are our assessment marks counted towards our ATAR mark - as do with other subjects going with the 50/50 play,
or is our HSC hospitality examination counting to a 100% total mark?

im quite confused, and its only stressing me out more not knowing..

i'm in the exact same position as you for Retail Services. i'm fairly sure that only the HSC external exams count, however, you should ask the careers advisor or the director of studies at your school for clarification (that's what i'm planning on doing).

VET courses only count the actual HSC exam mark and not any school marks.

VET subjects are different to other subjects.
  • Firstly only core subjects are in the HSC exam. These will be studied over the two years.
  • Secondly only the HSC exam is used to calculate your exam mark. Your school marks however are still important.
  • Your school will submit an estimate of your HSC exam mark to the BOS. This estimate may be used if something goes wrong with your performance with the HSC exam e.g. if you are sick and do not do as well as expected, in an accident and cannot attend. You would need to apply for special considerations. If accepted, the school estimate will be used to help calculate your HSC exam mark.
  • The 40/60 % ratio that you refer to, would be the method used by your school to calculate a mark to submit to the BOS. It may also be used to work out 1st place in the course for your school.

How can you do better in your exams with what you know? Two things: terminology and workplace examples. Remember what you did in your work placement. Use workplace examples (from yourself, others, videos, holidays). Allow enough time to go back and reread your answers. Then add more terminology eg name of equipment in a commercial kitchen and name a hotel or cafe in your examples.
