I agree that the use of minors in any sexually provocative ad campaign is very disturbing, but maybe that's the point. Calvin Klein ads have always been controversial. That's how he made his mark on the industry and gained fame. Controvery sells but never really hurts. If anything the media attention gained from such controversy probably raises awareness of issues such as child pornography and exploitation.

Meh. It's good marketing nevertheless. Calvin Klein clothing and products are unremarkable in my opinion, yet he's probably the most well-known designer in the world.
But think about it like this: could you imagine any hugely popular fashion houses sexualising pre-pubescent BOYS in that way? Do you think they'd ever have a fourteen year old boy pose nude for a campaign? I think not.

Which company had a 14 year old of any gender pose naked? Last time I checked that was illegal regardless of gender...

Sorry, I may not have been very clear. Before Gemma Ward was very famous (she probably would have been about 14/15 at the time) she posed in rather provocative and sexual positions with a boy for some type of advertisement or spread or something (I really can't remember what it was off the top of my head). She's done a lot of semi-nude stuff now (granted, she is 17?18?), but I still find that creepy seeing as she has a strangely childlike figure. Meh. It just seems wrong, in my opinion.

Its just a societal value, other societies in the past viewed this as a sign of youth and nothing more.

In Japan, the phenomena is called kawaii (or cute) and focuses on the social rejection of the dominant working class concept of the adult. In the same way, these could be read as a focus on the rejection of age and the clinging towards this youth as a primary concern in our society.

As for the sexy factor, the only reason we view this as wrong is because we associate youth with innocence and purity, but again this is a social construct. Perhaps it can be viewed as a rejection of this ideal and a furthering of the feminist ideal of breaking the shackles at an earlier age, who knows.

As for the young male models, it can be offset by the metrosexual concept, whereby there is a gender clash, and I have seen a few advertisements of certain younger looking male models in gender-bending situations or otherwise 'unexpected' from the traditional model of the masculine.

In the end, its all a crock of shit, and I suspect there are far more important matters to kick up a storm about rather than debate on the movements and concepts behind fashion shoots.

Oh, I agree that there are more important things to worry about. However, all this fashion stuff still has cultural relevance and it reflects the society we live in, so it does deserve some form of scrutiny.

Plus it's fun to argue just for argument's sake.

Agreed.

I'd have to agree with AsyLum. Very interesting post, though probably not as interesting as more pictures of hot models. :)

I really am quite fond of Cintia Dicker. Her red hair, pale skin and full lips are ever so beautiful.

there's nothing wrong with freckles, God knows i have plenty of them. I was just surprised to see a freckled model. They've usually got flawless, evenly pigmented skin
Yeah, but they're also airbrushed to perfection in all their pics. ;)

She is amazing. A very old-fashioned look, like some sort of Victorian princess... *sigh*
