Trivial question but I'm just curious how extension classes are integrated in other school's timetables. At my school all extension classes exist before and after school.
I had a friend who moved schools and she told me her EE1 class happens within school hours because so may people do it, but I don't really understand how it could be possible
Like what if you're doing three separate extension classes, or a compulsory unit of religion? Where does it go

My Extension history class is before school. But I know some extension classes in my school run during lunch times and universal free periods.

I'm not gonna go into how timetabling works because it's a pain. Basically every school has their own type of timetable and their own way of allocating classes - some schools have 8 periods a day, mine has 4 periods. Also note, some schools also have different start/finishing times for different days - my Monday has a different finishing time to Tuesday which has a different finishing time to Wed-Fri.

All these factors determine what subjects can be allocated in what day and what time slot, but every school must be able to do it.

Period 0's or after school. Sometimes, there are no classes for it and you just self-study (Usually EE2 English classes)

The student cannot do those 3 extension courses within school hours in Year 11 without having done at another 1 unit course in Year 11 (assuming no extension courses are run outside of ordinary hours, bar subjects that can only be picked up in Year 12, such as History Ext, MX2, EE2, Languages Ext etc.). That 1 unit Year 11 course most likely got dropped.

4U maths, 4U english, History extension, and japanese extension are all done at least partially after/before school periods
everytihng else (i.e. 3u eng, 3u maths) are done in school hours

It depends on how many lines a school runs. In Year 11 we run 7 lines and one line includes Ext 1 Eng and Ext 1 Maths. There will be other subjects on the line as well - often the second line for other subjects e.g. a PDHPE and a Biology class. This means that in Year 11 everyone is accommodated in the normal school day (8.20 - 3.30). In Year 12 the other Extensions run when every student is free - e.g. if everyone in the class is free on Line 4 then the Extension will be slotted into the normal timetable there but if there are no common free periods then before or after school. We aren't allowed to run classes during lunchtimes at my school.

At my school, EX1 and MX1 both ran before/after school hours. This is mainly due to the small numbers I guess (my school was ranked in the 500s).

My Math (both 4u & 3u) classes are both ran during school periods.

This is mainly because our class only has 4 & 8 students respectively, so it became easy after everyone dropped the same subjects on the same lines.
