Hey guys,

I am having a bit of trouble in deciding how much detail I should put into my notes, based on the syllabus dot points.

I am stuck at the moment where I don't like leaving out information however I am slightly concerned with the length of mine. Based on what I have done so far I'm going end up totaling about 80 pages typed for each subject by the end of the HSC.

So how long are everyone else's notes and can anyone give me any pointers on how to keep down the length a bit?

It depends on the subject.

What specific subjects are you referring to?

Ohhh right, my signature isn't very clear haha.

Based on what I did in term 4:
My sciences Chem and Bio- Each are 22 pages in total typed (this also includes notes on pracs)
And PDHPE- Which is 19 pages typed

My notes for maths are handwritten and are about 20 pages for 2u and 15 for 3u.

So...for your notes, what have you covered? If they are just for module 1s, I think you got pretty good amounts. That's not that much really.

I have 24 pages of notes for Bio for module 1.

For maths though, do you need notes? I never made notes for maths really..

EDIT: Wait....what is the word count? That's what's more important. 10000 words for one module sounds fine.

Well the good thing about typed notes is that you'll be able to cut them down if it's becoming too tedious to revise. I can't know without seeing them(and I'd only know for subjects I did), but as a rough guide you don't sound like you're going too overboard, mine were roughly the same length.

you could go into a lot of depth - it wont really do u any harm (unless you are short on time/cramming)

ah, yea
10k words per module sounds about right.
24 pages... mine tend to be about 20? Perhaps you have less efficient spacing or more diagrams, haha

Yeah, I have tonnes of diagrams...probably too much. They need to be "trimmed".

10,000 words, thats pretty much making your own textbook.

when it comes down to memorising stuff from your notes, how efficient would you be, having to read through it ?

the process of writing it consolidates your understanding so much more than the reading from it.

yeah, thats true, so i stopped writing "official" notes. i just handwrote dotpoints and wrote stuff that i'm not gonna read to revise, it was too messy anyway.
if i wanna study it again, i'll just do like practise papers or watever, i shudn't forget the stuff that easily hopefully, i'll just read textbook again if i need a bit more info.
hopefully this works.

agreed agreed. write them, then just revise quickly afterwords to make sure it's stuck in your head

4 pages notes for each adv english essay, plus have an idea of how to adapt your main points into whatever they might throw at you

about 6 pages per topic in eco, a bit more for legal and physics

Yeah I have just covered the first module.

Just did a word count and its a lot less than 10000 words haha, sitting between about 6000-6500 for each subject.

For maths my notes are just examples of questions that crop up a lot in the HSC and how to work through them- not really notes haha.
