it would be interesting to know how many girls do 4 unit
:)
There was a thread on that somewhere...
There are BOS statistics which show stuff like that...

Why is it so interesting? Because Maths is a 'male' subject?
(I am not a feminist and am not trying to start a battle of the sexes :D )

do you both do 4unit...and how are you finding it???
Oh, I don't mind it. We're doing our last topic now - mechanics. That's pretty easy. It's the conics and circle geo that is the hardest, IMHO.

For 2004:
Males: 2128
Females: 1386
Total: 3514

% females: 40%

For 2003:
Males: 2097
Females: 1335
Total: 3432

% females: 39%

For 2002:
Males: 1904
Females: 1056
Total: 2960

% females: 36%

For 2001:
Males: 1670
Females: 908
Total: 2578

% females: 35%

Check this out:

2001 software (SDD):
2890 413 3303
(boys, girls, total)

2004 sdd:
2625 269 2894

Haha. SDD is gaining a reputation as a stupid and crappy course, and rightfully so.

Yeh, im finding 4 unit not to bad. conics is a bit of a bitch tho. integration is one of the easiest (and funnest) topics to do. i havent started mechanics yet

as if you guys dont find complex numbers the hardest, simply for those goddam vectors. most of the top students in our school find that as the hardest part of the course, integration is alright and conics isnt that bad as long as you remember most of the formulae, i think...

this might just be our school giving us harder questions, because i havent yet looked at any past papers, but lets say something like.......

indicate on an argand diagram the region which contains the point P representing z when
|z| =< |z-2| and -pi/4 =< arg z =< pi/4
or something

i used to be able to do that but im way out of practice....back to revising......

oh and yes i did pick one of the hardest questions, but hey you never know what you could get...

ok, well the arg bit is 2 lines out from origin at pi/4 and - pi/4

then the modulus bit can be thought of as the distance from the origin is less than from the point (2, 0) so its all points left of the line x=1

hence the locus is sketched by a right angled triangle out to (1, 1) and down to (1, 1)

then......not including the origin cause the arg here is undefined....
