a mind map is where you put a word/saying/suote/person in the middle of the page and put words about the middle object around it.

Inspiration is a good program for it, if you're computer-orientated (like me). I don't know if you've heard of it but it does mind maps and flow charts and things like that. I don't know where you could get it, since I got it from school, but you could try Googling it.

I had a full university lecture on how to do a mindmap. This is the main idea:

How to do a mindmap:

* Put the main idea, concept or question in the middle of a large writing area.
* New ideas or themes are added as arrows or branches on the diagram.
* Related aspects are added as branches or arrows to each of the main braches.

It should take you about 90 - 150 seconds to brainstorm and 3 -4 minutes to reorganise.

I've personally never found them that useful a study technique; was being taught them in primary school as a compulsory part of a project. Just draw an arrow off a word if you feel like it. Use colours to link ideas. Just experiment a bit and you'll discover if it's a technique you want to continue to employ.

yeah i totally agree.. i find them a complete waste of time and hate being told to do one in class.. as to a specific way to do them, considering they are like a map of your own thoughts there isnt really any proper way - just the way that it comes out of your head and on to the paper so that you understand it.. my one tip would be to keep it neat and tidy so that u can understand it laters

keeping the map in your mind would probably be a better idea
