Hey guys ... I got my SDD trial on the 23rd of August, I have studied all required topics, my resources include excel SDD, cambridge (only for evolution of programming languages), sam davis and hienemann

I want to seriously aim to get 90+ in SDD, maybe even reach somewhere good in the state level, but for now I want to top the trials

Anyone got hints and tips? I'll seriously do what ever it takes but I know there's more than just studying the entire course inside out!

Thanks!

Yea i got a tip from someone who is getting 90's. get what??? STUDY THE WHOLE TOPIC theres no short cuts what shits me is you think that there is a short cut though it. go though the course, do past papers and also maintain ur knowledge of algorithms most importantly

understand the logic behind stuff. it doesn't matter how much you can memorise, it matters about how well you understand it and then apply your understanding.

Some people just cant do that. and they are fucked from the get go because it's not an easy thing to learn.

An easy way to explain this is with how i know the different sorting algorithms. Insertion sort works because it intserts the value into its spot. Selection sort selects the next value to be placed into the spot. etc... i hope this makes sense and maybe even helps.

I know its relevant for maths, but past papers is a good thing to do. Also go onto the BOS site, and do their multiple choice question thing they have. It's located here.

as a word of adive from someone whos done sdd and has gotten a good mark, just gotta constantly revise the course. Most hsc subjects are just regurigitation of what you have learnt (cept for the algorithm question, you just need to have the skills for that).

Also you gotta learn how to answer questions effectively. Back in sdd we would do that for a while. A lot of people lose marks because in the scenario they are given in a question, they don't mention once the scenario in their answer.... so its not really answering the question.

I spent every biology class in term 3 year 11 revising sdd. so thats about 4 hours per week, then the software class itself - another 4 hours/week. Then some study at home... about 12 hours a week on software.

after all that what did you get pop n' fresh?
...just curious.....

The problem i experience is that questions in SDD require a fair amount of detail to obtain full marks but even then the marks are fairly low for all the detail i put into answering the question...also detail = more time used therefore less time to do the last questions.....+ I'm not a very fast writer

To do basic algorithm questions nag some year 10 teachers to give you computing studies year 10 books, if you are keen work off some year 11/12 computing studies books

then work on SDD HSC papers for the 'ultimate test' treat HSC as to test your final skills after practising, unfortunatley SDD has SFA resources, unlike 2u/3u computing studies, I got my old brothers 2u/3u books and i can tell you there isnt a great deal of difference (but there is updated stuff), Im not focused on the content but the excess/relevant questions

soon you'll catch on there's nothing you can really study for except control structures, then go for your life, if you get it wrong 5 times, dont worry most people do!
