Although your HSC exam is still a while away, I though I should post this before I forget.

Students in Graphics Industries should keep in mind that set squares are NOT permitted in the HSC examination. This has caused confusion in the past as when I did my HSC about half the students in my exam centre used them and half did not. Even though this is cheating and these students could have been awarded zero, the examination supervisors did not appear to know the rules, as blatantly ignored students using the prohibited equipment. However, you should obey the rules and be prepared to draw drawings (in orthogonal and isometric) without set squares, and with only a ruler. In response to my allegations of students using prohibited material the Board replied in part,
"the marking schemes for these questions [i.e. questions requiring sketches] would not have advantaged a candidate who used geometric instruments such as a protractor, pair of compasses and/or set square."
