okay. so lets try to make some predictions.

now the exam is basically finished after the budget and around easter.
so i'm thinking around that time:

  • the budget was expansionary and went into deficit
  • maintaining economic growth was very important
  • there was a forecast of rising unemployment
  • the stance of monetary policy had changed dramatically
  • i cant remember what was happening with the exchange rate
  • the global economy was fucked apart from some of the NIE's [china, india etc]
  • i think there was that business about bonds factories moving offshore
  • inflation was sweet again
  • nobody cared of the dist. of Y
  • i cant remember if the ETS and all the enviro stuff was topical at that time
will post more soon.

Exchange rate:

Hovered about 63-66 cents US during February and early March, then appreciated to mid-70's by middle of May, and then onto 80c from June 1 onwards.

As for TWI, similar story, starting about 53-55 through Feb and early March, appreciated to about 62 by mid-late May, and then slow appreciation since (hovering mostly between 63 and 67).

Other points to consider, Terms of Trade, Balance of Payments, levels of foreign debt....

anything is possible, but there will definately be a fiscal essay (possibly tied with external stability), if there isnt i will be disappointed.

also hoping for the case study as one of the other two essays.
