hmmm i just think setting these sort of terms in rather ridiculous, why dont they just say "never to be released ?!"

I've read of a 10,000 year sentence being handed down in the US. This is nothing.

why make jail terms longer then your natural life. why not just say.. "oi buster, your never gettin out"

i rekon its to make sure he doesn't get out
coz they didn't have enough evidence to give him the death penalty

I think its just to show the severity of the sentence, and thus make comparisons between criminals. A criminal who received a 10000 year sentence probably committed much worse offences than one who received a 400 year sentence.

Besides, who knows what may happen in the future. Scientists might invent a special tablet that prolongs life for another 100 years or so

it's very funny, how in western nations, life sentencing is not actually life sentencing.

i think they begun that already, i heard scienctist can prolong peoples live by putting them into ice bergs

Several offences X sentance for each = resulting sentance.

4 counts of murder X 40 years each = 160 years etc


It is a bureucracy(sp?).

I'd probably rather execution than my whole life in a cell. But I don't agree with capital punishment (except maybe for terrorists)

What about war criminals. Aggression is a more serious offence than terrorism. In the Nuremberg trials it was described as all evils united.

True. I've now changed my stance, execution should be implemented for terrorists and war criminals

And numerous other crimes that are worse. I think these days there is too much focus on terrorism.

Do a plain body count excluding state terrorism (which is pretty much war crimes and state agression) and you get a drop in the ocean.

Prevention is good.

Either that or collective punishment, but we can all agree that is an incredibly wrong thing. That'd be like, bulldozing the house of a suicide bombers family.
