I think the biggest problem with cleans is bumpers. Without bumpers and a platform you're just asking for trouble (you'll fuck your bar, weights and floor).
I have done them without bumpers by just catching it on my meaty, meaty quads and then slowly lowering it.

This with 120+kg = pain, pain, pain :p

also the slow concentric would limit the amount of weight you can use no?

I was thinking about this whilst doing deadlifts last night, if you can't drop the weight on to bumpers your going to reach a sticking point between what you can power clean and what you can slowly lower.

... Going through a bit of an annoyance atm, not eating enough each day due to my uni schedule, thus scale hasn't moved for the last month and been stuck at 100kg flat bench for 3 weeks now . Seriously considering just lugging a 3L milk carton around with me at uni, drinking it whenever I get the chance.

It's going to be a long time before you can power clean 120kg+ for a triple. I wouldn't worry about it.

I dont know what your contact hours are but just pack one big meal on campus. I go for the chips, double patty hamburger and diet coke combo for $8.50. You only need 4 big meals a day.

Breeze what do you reckon of my new routine?

Saturday
5x5 Squat
5x5 Bench/Press (alternating)
3x10 Bent row
**3x15 Weighted Sit Ups**

Monday
2x5 Squat (80%)
3x5 Bench/Press
1x5 Deadlift
**3x15 Weighted Sit Ups**

Wednesday
1x5 Squat
1x5 Bench/Press
1x5 Bent row
**3x10 Close-Grips**
**3x10 Bicep Curls**

I'm limited in terms of equipment so I cant do pull ups and was forced to move the deadlift.

btw: the guys at sams fitness said they'll sell me 6 0.5's, two of which I'll have machined down to 0.25's. Finally getting microplates, woo!

Oh, I suggest front squatting on deadlift day.
I can't, as soon as I go deep the bar wants to fall off my shoulders. crappy torso/legs ratio :(

thinking about doing the bent row with 5x5 to drive its progress, but at the same time bent rows arn't exactly a progressive exercise.

Elbows up

I have to yell this at certain people otherwise they will just let them droop and bar will roll out

Note that this is NOT with a clean grip, but with arms crossed

Same thing applies (elbows up)

I tried clean grip a couple times, wasn't flexible enough, so I use arms crossed

they were really nice to me on the phone. I dont think their equipment range is as good as gymandfitness though (the muscle motion commercial quality rack and their range of barbells is to die for).

200kg of pure awesomeness.

Yeah, I don't like to think too much about rowing. Just fucking row the thing until it gets too difficult and then stop, and your back gets bigger.

I've really sucked with back mass, my traps, rhomboids and general 'thickness' is huge but I haven't put on much width. I need a chinning bar but they cost money and take away from my minimalist approach (me, my bar, my bench and squat stands)

btw dude my deadlift hasnt budged, my grip cant handle it anymore. I've tried ramping it but it take me forever to get back where I am now. any ideas?

I'm anti-strap.

No :( I do use gloves...

No, I only train core lifts. I probably should use a hooked grip, but I never learnt how in the first place and introducing them now would require a serious drop in weight used.

brb, gotta pick my bro up from a party.

btw, got a free schnitzel at work tonight :)

Are you anti-progress? They are a tool, not an ego stroke.

There are chalk bags/cubes that are highly recommended, don't leave a mess etc.

I see a few options: ride out the plateau and fingers crossed you break it with a lot of effort and perhaps some soiled pants, eat like an american, gain some weight and bust through it that way, or do a bit of accessory work. Change is good etc, refresh your soul and all that.

We had an awards night at work, heaps of free bbq stuff. Fuck I love party pies.

Despite being primarily a bodybuilder I wanna be as raw as I can. I'd use a belt, lifting shoes but not straps or knee wraps.

Can you ebay link me?

I guess. I just hate specialisation.

This has only really developed since I started Starr, my guess is because the volume I'm deadlifting has drastically increased. More food wouldn't the wrong way either.

I'm still in the bodybuilder mindset and cant bring myself to eat them :( can eat chips though :D
