I am in year 12 and my marks have bee average or slightly below. My career advisor showed me my estimate. It was around 40...
I felt devastated. I have one week until trials, could I raise it if I get a good enough mark. 60+ ?? I'm an only child in the family and I am pressured on getting into uni, but I am afraid I may never get the chance to go to uni. Any advice for how to handle this. Also advice incase I don't get the ATAR I want. Going to Uni through TAFE or some sort of program? I'm lost and confused and I just need some help. If you have any questions or advice please feel free to comment. Thanks.

What's your school ranking and your rankings in each subject? That'll help us get a better grasp of your situation

Yes that is possible.

Alternatively you can go to UWS and transfer

I had a look at UWS courses for Business or a policing/criminology course.
You can tackle this through 3 different ways:
- UOW Early Admission. Application/interview required at http://www.uow.edu.au/future/early-admission/index.html. You receive an offer BEFORE the HSC. Your ranks are OK - you just gotta compose one hell of an application, and perhaps focus on your community involvement/extra-ciruculars ETC.

- Macquarie University Early Entry. I went to a 500+ school, and 7-10 people with ATAR's 40 and below were offered great courses. A HS friend of mine with a mystery mark ATAR was offered HS teaching, and a 36 ATAR guy in my year was offered Marine Biology or Science (cant remember lol). No application required - just make Macquire Univeristy your first preference during a certain UAC round (not sure when). I highly reccommend this.

- UWS Early Offer Round. Make UWS your first pref before the ATAR results. Know people with 45+ that were offered B Bus/Com. Prioritise efficiently.

If you do not receive an offer through those pathways, DO NOT feel disheartened. Here are additional alternative ways you can get in, without losing time:

- UWSCollege. Absolutely great programs with almost guaranteed acceptance. For policing, study a Diploma in Social Science (Policing) or for Business/Commerce, study a Diploma in Business and Commerce for 12 months, and maintain a 50% average. Upon conclusion of this recgonised diploma, you will be GURANTEED entry into the 2nd year Bachelor of Policing program or Bachelor of Bus/Com You lose 0 time. Happy days!

Links for your reference. The 50 ATAR requirement has leniency with HS kids, and I have seen such leninecy with many of my friends with again ATARS of below 40. Flexible admission is great for you too - just a little longer.

- TAFE is good too. Have a look at TAFE Certs/Diplomas to UWS pathways. http://www.uws.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/389631/OPA3950_UWS_TAFE_Pathways_Brochure6_Web.pdf (P. 15 - 18)

- UTSInsearch - don't know much about this. But a quick google search, or a phone call should do the trick =)

I know its such a daunting time, but please don't feel too disheartened. There are COUNTLESS ways to get in.

This is what scares most HS students. I see it year, after year and its so heartbreaking because they throw there goals away. Of course you can get into university. Bascially, anyone with the correct motiational drive can be whatever the hell they want (within reason ofc). You just need to know whats available to you (and I hope I made that clear to you).

So, in other words brah, you're gonna be a cop, and keep the streets clean from foul people OK COOL YES CHECKMATE

ALSO NO IM NOT DONE YET

@OP BRAH. TBH I done shit in my trials, and as most people do really. Basically, after the trials I studied fair bit and I did reasonably well in my HSC. I found it was so much easier, and more chill than the trials. Managed to leave with an ATAR of 85+. So, point to take from this is that the HSC externals can be a massive gamechanger. So, study well. You have what, like until Oct. So like 2 months or so? Yeah brah, should be enough to brush up on your shit.

Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully I do fine and study so damn hard to get a the ATAR I want. If not, then I will keep going. Until I get to Uni. I may stumble along the way but i'm still going to go for it. I will contact the Universities to get a full understanding on all programs on how to manage myself before and after the HSC. Thanks for your comments. Seriously gave me a sense of hope :D

Well I've never come across a situation like this in my time of estimating, I'll leave your estimate to the others.

im sorry, unfortunately no :(
cuz ur school tells us pretty much where ur placed relative~ to the state
e.g ur ranks for a school in the top 10 would mean a vastly different atar than if u went to a 600s+ school

after ur trials u should get a school estimation so i wouldnt worry too much. and rly, the only thing u can do is work ur hardest - knowing ur atar estimate isn't going to miraculously change ur ranks.

omg im sounding like my careers advisor LOL

btw u have a small cohort u can actually end up doing rly well if ur whole cohort does rly well.
if ur school is in the 100s u might be sitting on a 92~ cuz it looks like ur going for 2-3 b6s atm
