Ive been reading over information about FEE-HELP and payment deferments, and i do not understand it. At all!

would someone care to explain it as simple as you possibly can, or better yet answer my questions then explain a little further!

1. am i able to defer ALL fee's [apart from accommodation] until i finish my course and am in a full time job earning more than the required threshold?

2. are all australian citizens eligible for FEE-HELP at uni?

thanks in advance!

Essentially you have a threshold/limit of whatever amount it is.

You apply for FEE-HELP, telling them how much you want to borrow and the government or whoever pays the amount you specified directly to the uni, and you pay the remaining sum if there is any. (i think you have to pay up front with most unis)

There is a 20% fee on the amount that you loaned out, and you repay the total that you owe the government (through the tax system) when you have a job and is earning more than a certain amount (you pay something like a few % of your annual income per year)

And yeh all australian citizens are eligible (obviously not for CSP students)

i think union fees are "optional" but end of day if u dont join the union, you dont get cheap photocopying, discount food, discount co-op bookshop, discount parking

so it forces you to join the union

I'd assume the scheme isn't interest free?
What are interest rates like and how are they accumulated?

For FEE-HELP, there's a 20% 'loan fee' which is added to your debt. Other than that, no interest is charged (other than indexing to inflation).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but FEE-HELP is different to HECS-HELP?

I'm enrolling into a CSP course, so I'd be looking to apply for HECS-HELP?

Whatever I pay upfront will be discounted by 20% & I can borrow the remainder without being charged any loan fee's or interest , and when my income reaches a certain amount they rip out the money I owe through tax?

Thanks.

Ok reading the above confused me further. What is the difference between HECS-HELP and Student Learning Entitlement? Is the SLE just a fancy way of saying I can go to uni?
