I want to go to a school for 11 and 12 and do 3 unit maths over there. They say that I need to achieve outcomes at a very high level from the 5.3 course but I'm doing 5.2 with my whole class. As our grade is small, they only teach at one level and sometimes 5.3. I'm a top student in the whole grade and I know that I am capable of doing 5.3 and 3 unit maths. But, its not my fault my school doesnt offer 5.3 in years 9 and 10.

So what am I supposed to do?

Are you saying your school does not provide 2unit/3unit math in Prelim/HSC?

You can still get into 3 unit doing 5.2. Two people in my class did 5.2 last year and one of them is in the top ten.

my school provides 2 unit
but not 3 unit
its a very small school and there hasnt been enough demand for 3 unit

Try changing your school. I think that's the only option if you wish to experience different courses.

You can try to reason with your teachers that you are 100% capable of doing 3unit, and see if anyone else is interested and show the interest to the teachers.

Change to a school that offers 3unit then.

You're only year 10, changing before prelim won't have an effecton you.

Extension Maths is a lot harder. If your prepared to do it and REALLY passionate about then you could either push it so much that you contact the Board of Studies yourself and they will contact your school. OR Simply change schools (though you will lose some friends and have to make new ones).

Hard choice. If I was in this position I would be contacting the BOS.

Change schools right away!!!!

Some schools do not care if you want to do a course. It happened with my school. Some people arent allowed to do any Science SUbjects or Engineering because they didnt do 2 unit Maths, and to do 2 unit maths, you must be in selective and get B grade. Thus, some people cant do Science.

Ext classes generally arent big anyway. If you have a small cohort then the class is going to be smaller

My cohort at the moment (year 10) is about 110 people. Year 11 should be about 80-90 and both our Math ext I and English ext I classes are going to be very small. Maths will have about 6 kids doing it (inclusive of me) and English about the same... and we will have about 80-90 kids in the entire cohort. More than 50 in the previous post.

If the school is going to be cruel then I would leave. My school is excellent! Come to mine... all the up way on the Mid-North Coast :D lol.

lol what do you mean by wtf? Quite a few people will change or drop when they find that they dislike a course.

e.g. 30 people are forced to drop courses if they do bad in it.
5 people from my school change from standard eng to advanced every year
