hey. my first three preferences are of uni of wollongong, i really wanna live on campus there. it is so expensive thou!! campust east is like $210 a week. thats a difference of 2 grand a year compared to charles sturt wagga. it quite a bit over 3 or 4 yrs!!
anyone else think so?

Well if you''re lucky you might find really good priced accomadation near the uni. My friend found one for $40/week @ Keiraville. He''s living with four other bumz.

We use to (we sold the house), rent a granny flat (that was on the houses property) to a student. i think we did it for $100 a week, it was no in wollongong rather about 3 stops north of nth gong station. about a 5 minute walk to the station. you can always look north (or south) of wollongong you don't HAVE to live in wollongong. we have buses and trains

Also because UoW isn't very harsh on their English requirements for International Students from a country with a LOTE primary language.

It's not UOW, it's Australia in general. Foriegners who want to come to Australia either as a student or immigrant would have to take an English test called IELTS which is used in the UK, Canada and Australia. Unfortunately, the IELTS is way easier than America's TOEFL.

Anyway, how would I get an information pack from UoW? I fished around on their website but can only find PDFs and an email address. I specifically want a physical prospectus so I can compare page-for-page with other unis...and most of these other unis have an online request form for this stuff.

You can get a prospectus by emailing uniadvice probably. They deal with all that sorta stuff. uniadvice@uow,edu.au i think, its on the website somewhere. But you're already at uni, why u want a prospectus now?!

i applied for uow accommo tonight, wooh yet to put in my uni preferences but uow will be number 1!

wagga is not shit, charles sturt universities have the best reputation in the state, better than uow even tho it is still a good uni, wagga has the best social status for on campus students aswell, and they have more courses

I'd like to shoot that down with:
Uni, no matter what one, is shit.

Other than that, gmraso, I don't see UoW offering the range of DE courses that CSU offers. Also, I don't see UoW offering Campus living as good as CSU (especially the Wagga campus) either.

I still wouldn't live in Wagga. Too little people, it'd be too hard to be antisocial.

I won't dispute with you in terms of the reputation side of things as that is quite subjective and can be influenced with a nice propoganda plan initiated by someone as intelligent as a certain forum member on these boards. :uhhuh:

What I will point out, is:

1) More available courses does no good to your line of argument. In fact, it is quite a detriment. Tertiary institutions are set up in such a way which highlights the importance of certain courses at particular universities. That is, certain institutions are well known and acknowledged nation wide for their particular specialisation in a certain field. Having a large variety of courses and choices is quite a detriment in that it is very difficult to pinpoint the certain courses which stand out from others similar ones at different universities. So my question to you is, what particular fields of acadamia is CSU proud of?
From our perspective, we can tell you that we pride ourselves in the fields of engineering, commerce, law, computers/IT and certain sciences.

2) No one beats us on social life....we have the Glasshouse, what do you have?

CSU is the best tertiary institution for university studies (TAFE is the best out of the lot, believe it or not), for distance education purposes. It comes down to the fact that CSU was created for rural and regional NSW. Because of this, a lot of money, effort, time, &c is put into their distance education courses. One can't always go to a campus for reasons like agricultural commitments, illness, caring, funds, and so on.

Though there's no need to bitch about which uni is better. They focus on completely different things.
