I have a week till trials begin, my ranks are mostly good but I'm ranked 5/10 for chem and 4/4 for 3u english and while i don't think i could get a band e4 for 3u eng (i couldn't care less atp, would rather focus on my two unit subjects)
I'm just wondering if there's been an instance of someone who performed poorly in trials, but ended up getting an overall band 6 for their actual hsc exams?? It feels super bleak atp :/

yes there is, I’ve seen band 4s go to high band 5s/low band 6s. even tho the hsc is worth 50%, it carries more weight than that. it determines our moderated internal mark and more. ur hsc is more important than ur trials so yes u can absolutely make a comeback for ur hsc exam. but i dont wanna give false hope that makes u feel calm and laid back. u HAVE to put in the effort to get that mark, not just believe you’ll do better in the hsc. good luck!

I usually use this site to troll but I'll give you a genuine answer from someone who achieved a 94 atar. If you fuck trials then a comeback is impossible unless u maintain a well rank. Your gonna hear some people saying comeback stories but thats only applicable imo if ur in a good school and ur cohort actually does well. But like if you fuck up trials and ur rank drops lower then its highly unlikely for some bullshit comeback story. I had a friend who was consistent all year and took trials like some roadblock. He ended up dropping ranks and getting below the atar he wanted. HSC is all about consistency and already if your having this mindset that what if i fuck trials ahh can i comeback ahh you gotta change this into I'm gonna do well in trials then imma carry this momentum into the hsc. Peace

yeah i agree with this, I interpreted the message more as “what if I don’t get the mark I want” but if u decide u wanna completely flop trials and put in minimal effort, ur doing damage to urself. ur trials ultimately determine ur ranks so even if u feel really cooked, put some effort to maintain ur rank someway or another. deciding to completely flop trials and work the hsc is not strategic at all. better off putting minimal effort in trials that’ll carry onto your hsc

Do you know if your ranks are close together in terms of marks? Becuase if there's like 5% separating you from being rank 1, and *HYPOTHETICALLYA* you got a really high mark on your external mark (say 97+), you could still do reasonalbly well (but highly unlikely). You still keep your exam mark, it is your 'assessment mark' which is the 'exam mark' of the person who got the equivalent to your rank within your cohort within your subject. In terms of NESA, they care more about the spread of ranks rather than the marks of which each rank got. Adopt a team effort approach in your classes. This would be the ideal. Just do the best you can.

Every year many people ask this. Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius divided things into things he could control and things he couldn’t control. He’d then dismiss the things he couldn’t control and try his best at the things he could. This is the basis of stoicism. So essentially, you are not in control of the past 17 years of your life. The past has already happened. But you are in control of the next week. So try your very best this week and don’t even think about the outcome, just the process.
