There could be a deep exploration with his alienation and lack of identity due to losing his boat and seafaring ways.

Would the BOS be so ironic?

Am I missing something here?
Perhaps. In our 2010 SC there was quite an infamous poem about a guy that sold his boat that started a whole lot of fb groups/puns.

It was definitely the biggest thing to come out of our SC other than the massive pizza Q and them failing to write a geography paper due to all the typos.

For everyone's pleasure :)

“Papa is
uncomfortable
in his old man shape.
Tinkering
salt cured hands
twitch for
wire to solder,
rope to lap,
metal to twist.

Papa stopped smoking.
The old pipe
stays on the bedside table, and
the greasy smell
stays in
his clothes,
his paper bag face,
his waterproof hair.

Papa
kept the sea,
sold the boat,
kept the stories,
sold the boat,
kept the sea
in a blue knit jumper
and a roving telescope –
water
trickles into the lounge room,
yachts sail past his chair.

Papa knew the man
who could swallow wine glasses,
who floated naked down the river,
who ate a car – one spoonful
at a time.
We believed his
murky eyes, his
wheezing roar.
But mum looked
Skep-tik-al.

Papa surveys the old world
From his armchair,
spinnaker set.
He doesn’t believe
in email."

I still don't understand the part about the "who ate a car-one spoonful at a time." But mirin' it's anaphora and repetitions and metaphors. Dat nostalgia <3

That poem would have gone well with some of the "artwork" which a few of my classes put on their answer sheets (especially the guy in front of me).

Haha lol.

In my SC, people wrote the craziest stuff in the Prime Ministers section of the history paper...like bashing John Howard for making it Australian history, to rants about why Julia wasn't in the box.

I know most people don't care about the SC - but did most of you guys give it a serious attempt on the day?

Papa was a poem that appeared in the 2010 School Cert. Not many people knew what the poem meant and we all deemed it too difficult so the 2012ers made a page to rant about it.
