In the Independent Physics 2023 trial there was a question 22c about change in gravitational potential energy and the marking guidelies put the solution

0.5x600000x(9.8 - 8.22)x288=1.37x108J

but this was amended to

0.5x600000x(9.8 + 8.22)x288=1.56x109J

It wouldn't be a problem if all the markers used the amendment however I have heard stories of some who did not.

This led to many students who had 1.56x109J as the answer being marked incorrect whilst others who had the same answer being marked correct.

So if you did that trial I would check the marking for 22c again, especially if you had 1.56x109J as the answer.

yep I got marked wrong for that and then my teacher went through and found I was right

also that paper sucked, 2022 hsc was filled to the brim with calculations and it’s pretty clear the hsc is shifting into that direction, yet this paper felt more like a 2018 physics paper
