Ok, let me start off my rant.
Up until about 2 months ago, I was the top student and most certainly would have been awarded the Dux. About half way through Term 3 a girl comes from New Zealand and enrolls in the school. If anyone knows the Queensland system - we have a continuous system of assessment, so there's no final examinations, just a continuous string of assignments and exams. Anyway, by the time she had come in, we had completed about 4 pieces of assessment; by the end of Term 3, when everyone had completed about 6, she still had only done 2.
Thing is, the school have counted her and BASED on those two pieces of assessment, they are awarding her an OP! This is obviously a disadvantage to me and others who were hoping for high OP's because the aim of the system is to 'get above' everyone else.
So as a result, she has higher grades than everyone else (as you'd expect since two pieces of assessment are obviously going to have a higher average than say six). The school are trying to back her up and support her positions, saying that they can corroborate them with evidence from her past school in New Zealand!
Is it just me, or is this a totally unfair situation? How can they even look at her New Zealand results - Queensland has an ENTIRELY different system. There is just no relation between those two things.
If you were in my position, would you accept the fact that they are awarding her the Dux based on such little evidence or fight it? At this stage I'm thinking I should fight it considering I've worked so hard to achieve what I have. :burn:
