My teacher keeps telling us that our internal marks don't count towards our overall marks, not even ranks, only the external marks do.

Is this true?

Because I cant see how they can mark something that is not yet finished, or in the case of ranks, give you some other persons marks. But in that case, are the internal assessments there for absolutely no reason?

Is there some other kind of marking scheme for Ext 2?

Lies.

They do count, they kind of help manipulate your outside mark, i.e if you come last in assessments and get 50 external mark, you will not get a 50 unless everyone else in your school got 50 too.

Don't listen to your teachers. (To a degree, as i don't know what they are actually saying)

But if what you say is true, they are incorrect.
Your ranks and internal marks do count.
This is how your marks are scaled and such.

I am coming 1st in my class anyway.

How do your internal marks count towards your HSC result (because I haven't been doing that well (Proposal: 7/10, and Voce: 22/25))?

And how do your ranks count?
Because it has to be different to ranking in other subjects.

Don't really know what you mean. But i will have a stab for you.

Those are good marks. As long as the other students having been getting 25/25, and 10/10.

You want to be as close to the number one as possible. (in internal marks).
Rankings are important as thats where the scaling happens.

I heard if the difference between your internal and your external is big (like greater than 5) they completely disregard your internal.

I dunno, that's what our coordinator told us.
Seeing as the external encapsulates both your work and your thinking process in the form of the reflection statement, it makes sense that if they were excellent, yet you got a poor internal mark for vivavoce/proposal/reflection statement, they'd disregard internal marks...

It's not the average. The mark you get is the average between what you score personally in the external exam and the score of the person whose rank in the external is equivalent to your own. For example if you got 49 in the external but came 3rd internally. You get the average of you 49 and lets assume the person who came 3rd externally got 47, so you get a 48

so ur assessment mark is approx. equivalent to the external mark of the person whose external rank is the same as ur internal rank.
