Indeed I did. But I didn't really learn anything new. Instead, I walked around afterwards for a few hours and ended up getting a magnificent sunburn.

Hooray for university :)

What stream are you specialising in?

I'm doing Global Studies...what stream are you doing?
I'm doing Spanish as my arts elective (along with French) because I'm still undecided about which language I wanted to do. Have you sorted all your uni stuff like ID yet?

I'm doing European Studies, and my language is going to be Italian...mostly because I did a little bit in school, ages ago, and don't really feel brave enough to tackle a language I have no familiarity with (e.g. French).

My actual elective for this year is Latin :D I'm excited cause I've always wanted to do it, but never had the chance before now. So...YAY for language!

I haven't got my ID yet, I really ought to get off my arse and do so.

If you read a lot of the prior post they'll tell you everything you need to know

basically its a degree where you have to choose a particular stream either european, asian, global, languages or development. you do subject according to the stream you've chosen plus an elective.

language is helpful if you want to take your career overseas, have experience broadly and especially to travel...and you go to study in an overseas uni for a year so you'll need it then.

hello there.

I am a second year B. International Studies student. Exciting periods ahead.

To save you time, if you cannot study consistantly and independantly, don't bother. There are students who did well in HSC and dropped like dog poo when they couldn't handle the pressure and independance.

If you want more info, drop me an email.

UTS is Economics based International Studies.
UNSW is more social science/arts based International Studies.
USyd is same as UTS. InSt is in Faculty of Economics

All of them have compulsory exchange program.
UTS/UNSW have compulsory language component.
UNSW have general education component for 2nd year and semester 1 3rd year. It is to keep you interested and spring back some diverty and colour in your uni life.

How possible is it to transfer from arts at UNSW to international studies at UNSW? Is it easy or really difficult?

I'm worried because if i don't get into international studies, I don't know whether I should do arts and try to transfer or just do a different course. Because I really have my heart set on doing International Studies at UNSW.

I'm hard working and I think I can do well at uni, but I've heard all this stuff about how transferring is getting harder.

Hey maz
its ness! lol
i reckon you'll get 91 easy. Go on Sam, he'll tell you. He always tells me im going to get over 91 and your marks are higher than mine. Just think of the ext english scaling!
I reckon you shouldn't do arts as your next preference because thats not what you want to do. If you get stuck in arts you wont be happy.

B. International Studies is a very competitive degree. Only about 70-80 students are elegible to be in it because UNSW have to fund grants for students to go overseas. UNSW can't afford too many students.

Go to arts and do subjects which are accepted for International Studies. It is not easy. You need to get distinction averages. It is not the beaurocracy and red tape that is the problem in transfering. It's the acedemic record that you should be worred about.

Arts is the closest thing to BInSt. Do it.

I think you should drop me an email or private messege. There is too much variable in transfering and the conditions.

B.InSt's UAI can fluctuate big time. Remember only 70-80 students do this degree and it is highly sought after. If more students want to do it, then it rises dramatically.

The first year, you will do 2 core courses, 1 European subject and 1 elective of your choice, per semester. 4 altogether. Obviously those 2 core topics will consist of European History. I heard is so bloody hard and nobody got distinction or high distinction. Like 2/5 failed European history. The lecturer has really high standards.

Just wondering, the 2006 UAC guide lists "journalism + media" as an int. studies career opportunity - how does the course relate to journalism/media? At the moment I'm tossing up between: communications/int. studies, law/int. studies, or communication/law, but would ideally like to find something which incorporates all 3...

Also, is it possible to do two languages with european studies? And if I choose language studies and study two, what happens with exchange? Do I spend one semester in each country?
