Internships for Computer Science? (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I am considering computer science in university but I am very confused about internships. I heard people in computer science take internships so do I start an internship in high school or in my first year of uni?? Could someone please explain?

the most you can do in highschool is work experience i'm pretty sure (not sure how useful it is and it seems pretty hard to find any work experience stuff with it)
but yes uni is where you get your internships - probably moreso in your 2nd or 3rd or 4th (i forgot how many years compsci is) years and you'll likely need a good WAM (weighted average mark, similar to GPA) of distinction or higher bcz internships can be very competitive (in some cases you get a return offer to keep working there)
unrelated but if you want a taste of interview questions try going on leetcode

hi im in y11 this year and yea i also tried looking for internships mostly found ones for uni. but i found this website that has virtual high school internships??? havent signed up yet but it seems good if you have spare time (i most likely wont)

im not too sure but it would definitely help! i think an internship would stand out more if youre applying to a scholarship or whatnot. you could try out for a co op scholarship.

if you're keen on working straight out of high school I would suggest looking at cadetships as well! If you search up Professional Cadetships Australia you can find some information on it.

If anything u can just do comp sci at usyd/uts with a lower ATAR it doesn't really matter.

It's one of those degrees where if you build your own projects and have a nice portfolio it separates you really well since most candidate portfolios are probably just the uni projects.

no, dw about it. start looking in first year, but don't expect to get a formal one until second onwards

getting any experience is good - extracurriculars (especially leadership), societies where you make stuff, hackathons, research

also do personal projects, that's generally what ppl when they lack experience
