\cos^{-1}x-\sin^{-1}x = k

show that:
x = \frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}(\cos \frac{k}{2}-\sin \frac{k}{2})

-pi/2 to 3pi/2 inclusive

what am i doing wrong with latex.how do i put it into that form do i put brackets or something around it.
