basically unlocking your phone from apple and being able to access an external app store which allows you to download app store apps for free and change themes, etc... (google it)

Leaning towards the 4S now. Got my hands on the s2 and played around with it. The UI seems very messy compared to ios. The casing and overall feel seemed a bit flimsy compared to the iphone.

That's pretty much my exact impression of the S2.

Just waiting for telco pre-orders to open. Really annoying.

Optus is the only telco with satellites, they rent out its transponders to others.

Since you already have the iPhone 4, I would recommend to wait until they release something new. The iPhone 4S has minor differences, such as 'Siri' which a voice-activated control thing, and improved camera and faster perfromance.. So if you really want these features, then sure buy it, but if it does really make much of a difference, then just stick with the phone you have now :)

Hmm I should get the iPhone 4S (16gb) outright then join TPG basic cap saver plan (12 months/150 credit/1GB data).
= 799 + 12(12.99)
= 954.88

Coverage should be decent since it uses Optus satellite.
The TPG plan is so cheap!

They'll release 5 sooner if not many people buy iPhone 4S and wtf is this S crap, they should just make it 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 and be done with it. An upgrade should be for a new NUMBERED iPhone, not a 1.5 upgrade. e.g. iPhone 5. If it ain't worthy enough to be titled the next iPhone (n + 1) then it isn't worth creating the product and selling it.

Vodafone said probably tomorrow but if you register your interest they'll message you when pre-orders open.

I'd assume it's the same for all carriers except Optus, which seems to be taking pre-orders here for some reason.

nope not yet, I'm thinking of doing it now.... and not sure whether to get 16 or 32 :(

did you get infinite or some other plan?

EDIT: seems there's no 12 months plan, fml :(

I went with the $49 cap, although I've previously been on a similar unlimited cap. Didn't really use it and the extra data you get with the $49 cap is more valuable to me. Plus phone repayments are less.

Personally I've found 16GB to be pretty decent. I don't load up all my music on my phone and videos stay on the laptop (which I've got on me most of the time). Depends on how you use it though. A lot of people I know have bought the 32GB model.

ahh alright, that's fair enough, whatever works I guess.

I've finally decided, 32GB white model, $45 infinite (need this for business usage and nothing beats $45 a month infinite - data doesn't really matter tbh) and the 32gb is only $3 extra a month more than 16GB so yeah, works out well, will order in the morning, not in the mood right now, hopefully they last until about 10am tomorrow :)
