You are cordially invited to attend the Inaugural Vice-Chancellor’s Debate, to be held on August 15 at 5pm in Building E7B Courtyard.
We have some great speakers lined up for this event, which we plan to be the first in a regular series of stimulating debates to be supported by the Vice-Chancellor.
The inaugural debate proposition is: That capitalism is bad for the soul.
Speaking for the proposition are acclaimed author, public intellectual and director of the Australia Institute, Dr Clive Hamilton; distinguished Macquarie academic, author and cultural economist Professor David Throsby; and Macquarie student debater Ms Luigina Webb.
Speaking against the proposition are Professor Peter Saunders, author and Social Research Director at the Centre for Independent Studies who oversees the Centre's Social Foundations program; distinguished academic and Dean of Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Professor Roy Green; and Macquarie student debater Mr Thomas Hosking.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Steven Schwartz, will chair the debate.
Audience members will also be given the opportunity to express their views.
Drinks and finger food will be available for guests immediately following the debate.
